Since the focus of a vertical farm is on planting upwards, the plants are grown on a shelf known as a growth tray.

Above each row there is a lighting system that can be adjusted differently depending on the plant species, to mimic the spectrum of sunlight and thus promote growth.

In addition, nutrients are also supplied to the plants in a closed water circuit. The controlled temperature is always the same within a closed tower, so only plants with the same “comfort temperature” should be grown together per tower.
